Prairie Hill Blueberry Farm

Blueberry Lemon Jam.  I accidentally added too much lemon to my blueberry jam last year, which resulted in blueberry lemon jam, and yummy.  It was a great mistake!  I love blueberries - blueberry jam, blueberry muffins, blueberry cake, just plain fresh blueberries.  You name it, it’s good!  And once you have had a fresh blueberry off of the bush, when it’s warm from the sun - your life will be forever changed for the better!

For the past few years, we have been visiting Prairie Hill Blueberry Farm - I happened upon it a few years ago, and it is a treasure in our area!  They are open for about 3 weeks, so at publishing time, they will have approximately 2 weeks left of the season.  I always check their facebook page to stay up-to-date on information regarding the crop (this year they are open a week earlier than last summer), hours, and additional goodies they are offering!

They built a darling barrel train, where each barrel is a different animal and kiddos get to choose an animal to ride on around the farm - they get to see all 1,000 blueberry bushes and the chickens, well, the whole farm!  They also have more than just blueberries - goat milk soap & shampoo, blueberry pies, dandelion salve (you must get some of this - it is excellent, and I mean excellent, chapstick), and more!!

We went to Prairie Hill Blueberry Farm two times this week - you read that right - TWO TIMES!  We went on Monday and met one of my friends, whose son is one of Brayson’s friends, and then on Tuesday we picked up one of Bronwyn’s friends and went again - we love it that much!  The cooler temperatures were perfect for blueberry picking!  The farm has over 1,000 blueberry bushes and boasts 5 different varieties of blueberries.  Try a blueberry from a bush, and if you like that blueberry, pick away from that bush!

A Mom-hack, make a “home base”.  I packed a blanket + activities + snacks + drinks, and this was WAAAAAAY more popular than blueberry picking; however, it allowed me the peace and quiet to pick blueberries and I could still see the kids as I picked in quiet solitude :)

After we went to get blueberries, we headed to Building 1225 and played for a few hours, and then the Sullivan Library!  Needless to say, we have enjoyed fresh blueberries this week, and the supplies to make blueberry lemon jam are currency sitting on my counter!
